Sanjay Dutt turned 49 on July 29. The actor, now shooting in South Africa for Chatur Singh Two Star, did not host any birthday celebration but news has it that his wife, Manyata, bought him a bungalow as a birthday gift.
A dilapidated one-storey cream-coloured bungalow with broken glass panes, measuring approximately 5,000 sq ft at the junction of Chimbai Road and Perry Cross Road in Bandra, is supposed to be the property that the Dutts have chosen. Nestled in a small lane, right behind a peach-coloured highrise called Cecilia, the property that Manyata has chosen for Sanjay belongs to the Nathani family of four brothers.
Though Dutt—after accepting birthday wishes—said neither he nor his wife had purchased a bungalow, Shafin Nathani, youngest of the four brothers, confirmed that the deal was through. The bungalow will be vacated by August 15. News is that the Dutts have paid around Rs 7 crore for the bungalow.
It is said the building could be the official address of Sanjay and Manyata Dutt Productions and a post-production studio is also expected to be housed on the same premises.
Nathani House is one of the oldest bungalows in the Bandra suburb. And the four brothers—Nazim (who passed away recently), Iqbal, Mohsin and Shafin— are the shareholders.
Salman Khan’s mother, Salma, also grew up in this neighbourhood. When Salman heard the bungalow was up for grabs, he is said to have toyed with the idea of buying it. “But the deal fizzled out,’’ says the same member of the Nathani house.
Several builders have tried to buy the brothers out in the past few years but no deal was reached. It was then, in April this year, that Manyata—looking for office space—zeroed in on the Nathani bungalow.
The second brother Iqbal is still living on the premises and is expected to vacate it shortly and the third brother Mohsin, a Bollywood celeb dress designer, is said to be out of the country for a three-month shoot. Shafin, the youngest brother, has moved to a new home in Andheri.
